« My bulimia. I'd never have believed that it would return, stealing in between my weaknesses, it slipped in gently, slowly, with hardly a word.» Estelle Estelle is the portrait of a woman who lives alone with her disease, for whom every day is a test, a victory or a defeat. It's about looking in to the intimacy and banality of the daily routine, a silent solitude. Often taboo, the series looks at bulimia directly and without disguise. Eating as a consolation amidst silence, gaining weight as a concealment from others, in order to disappear under the mass of flesh. Being photographed as a way to take back control of her body, its a way to speak out loud, to move on. These photos are the witness of multiple meetings over several years between two women who trust each other and who explore little by little the torments of the spirit and the torments of the body.
